If ever there was a "white whale" of pistols, the Sokolovsky Automaster would be it. Often described in publications and advertisements as being "The Rolls Royce of Auto Pistols", the Automaster was the creation of inventor Paul J. Sokolovsky.
Only 50 Made?
Looking at pictures of most Sokolovsky Automasters, you can see on the left-hand side of the slide engraving which states: "- 1st Edition - No. X of 50 -". Being such an incredibly rare handgun design, it is hard to come by pictures or proof of even the mere existence of individual guns. Based on my research, I currently presume there are at least 53 "Automaster" pistols - 50 production models & at least 3 prototypes. Below you will find a collection of all of the pistols I have proof of existing, according to serial number:
